GREENWICH VILLAGE TOWNHOUSE RENOVATION
This townhouse renovation strikes the perfect balance between maintaining the special architectural character of the Greenwich Village Historic District, and capturing the modern sensibilities of the new residents. Great care has been taken to preseve the true essence of the home, its historical beauty heightened by tasteful modern touch points that run throughout. A minimalist motif appears in the form of stone detailing, kitchen islands, and free-standing soak tubs, infusing elements of contemporary expression into the traditional vernacular of the structure. Designed with an eye to entertain, the open concept living and dining rooms are anchored by a sculptural staircase that makes a statement as it spirals up all five levels. Each landings offers a unique moment of contemporaneity and acts as a threshold, setting the tone of each floor. A lightwell runs through the center of the house culminating in a glassed-in kitchen on the rooftop that seamlessly opens out onto a private terrace. The back facade of the home has been entirely transformed by 19ft sliding glass windows that dissolve any semblance of a barrier between the great room and the garden.
